简介
Laura was always fascinated by music . . . but it was fate that lead her to a musical career!! In the 90's Laura was actively involved in competitive karate, actually holding a World Championship title, and working as a motor-bike dispatch rider. One night she didn't make it home and as a result of the accident was unable to continue her beloved sport. This left a huge gap in her life! As fate would have it, following a break-in at her home, she began talking to her opposite neighbour, who also happened to be a drummer. With much persuasion Laura finally agreed to form a band . . . although was still wondering is this was indeed a good idea! It was, and her first band, F Rock was formed . . . an all female band that consisted of Laura, lead vocals and acoustic guitar, Fran, drums and backing vocals, Glynnis, an acoustic guitar player from South Africa and Lisa, the Italian bass player. Before too long Laura became the sole guitarist of the band, which was not something she felt completely comfortable with and on-going problems within the band finally meant the loss of the bass player . . . in stepped long term friend of the drummer, Ian. His style and ability made it possible for the band to continue as a trio. However, the search for a 'real' [in Laura's own words] guitarist started . . . Following a successful gig at London's King's Head venue they were approached by a young eager faced man, Dave [Hobbit]. Although not a local lad, he was keen enough to want to be a part of this band he had just witnessed. So was born Luggage. Luggage continued with this line-up for some years, enjoying many a successful gig up and down the length of England. They also played a lot of London's top venues, which they thoroughly enjoyed by the way! One song actually received air play on London's radio show, Virgin - twice! Although sadly for the band they seemed to be the only people who didn't get to hear it!! But all good things must come to an end, and, for varying reasons the line up eventually changed, firstly with the sad lose of Ian [not as in death you understand . . . ]. This was a huge blow for the rest of the band, but a young fella by the name of Wayne stepped in to try and fill Ian's shoes . . . and with some friendly coaching managed to hold his own and earn his place. Next to go was Hobbit . . . not such an easy gap to fill . . . after some time Luggage found Jon, although the joy was to be relatively short lived! Some things just aren't the same when you change the ingredients and eventually Laura decided to call it a day!! Life has a funny way of twisting and changing fate. The following year Laura couldn't even bring her-self to listen to any of her music and was, by now, living in Holland. One evening when some friends were over they asked if they could hear some of her work . . . thinking it was probably about time, she agreed . . . it was a changing moment for Laura, she suddenly realised she was missing making music and playing live . . . thus began her new musical journey in Holland. Laura still had a slightly bitter taste in her mouth from the difficult break-up of Luggage and was reluctant to go down that same path. She decided perhaps an acoustic duo would be an idea, as this also had the possibility of bring in some money! So yet another hunt began!! Working her way through some rather odd moments Laura finally met up with Andrew, who luckily for her, was actually an English man who had lived in Holland for a number of years. Thus began the acoustic duo! Their set was made up from mainly covers, although Laura did include a few of her own songs from time to time. They became regular players at one of Rotterdam's most well thought of Irish pubs, Paddy Murphy's and could regularly be seen playing on a Sunday evening. During this time Laura had a reunion gig back in the UK with the original line-up of Luggage . . . it was at this time that Laura realised playing a covers acoustic duo just wasn't where her heart lay . . . it was time to make real music again . . . Which brings us nicely up to today . . . Laura is currently busy working on a new album along with bass player extraordinaire Jeffrey Bax. This album is expected to be finished by the end of November 2006. Laura’s philosophy on writing songs is simple . . . “I write from my heart and my life . . . music is one of the most emotive mediums we have, and if I can reach one person with my songs, then I’ve done what I am here to do . . . it’s as simple as that, music is who I am”. . . This cd is made up from various studio recordings made over a period of time. The songs were not written as an 'album' but represent more Laura's song writing style and love of lyrics and melody.
