简介

TANNER TIME, a new c.d. featuring Chicago vocalist, trumpeter and composer Jeannie Tanner. Tanner Time Records has just released Jeannie Tanner’s new c.d. TANNER TIME. The album highlights Ms. Tanner’s original music, along with her arrangements of I Got Rhythm, Bernie's Tune, At Last, Sting's If I Ever Lose My Faith and B.B. King’s Rock Me Baby. According to Howard Reich, music critic for the CHICAGO TRIBUNE (2/28/08): "Her singing is as lyrical as her trumpet playing but more subtle and delicately nuanced... The silvery quality of her vocal tone, the pliancy of her rhythms and the originality of her compositions attest to her depth as a jazz musician. In her own Reflections in Mirrors, Tanner produced scat singing of appealing complexity. Her ability to linger behind the beat, then rush to catch up, was a pleasure to hear. And in Tanner Time, the title cut of her latest CD, she reaffirmed the craft and creativity of her songwriting." TANNER TIME features: Jeannie Tanner (vocals/trumpet), Lisa McQueen (piano), Carol Rand (upright bass) and Darlene Dufay (drums); with special guests Neal Alger (guitar) and Michael Hesiak (tenor sax). "In a jazz scene littered with discs by singers singing the same standards with roughly the same arrangements, Jeannie Tanner's TANNER TIME stands out. Not only for the songs, which stretch well beyond the boundaries of what is normally considered jazz, but also by the fine playing of an (almost) all-female ensemble. Immediately the listener is made aware of Tanner's fantastic voice and sense of time, pulling and pushing against the rhythm section... A tip of the hat to the jazz world continues with some fine trumpet playing on Bernie's Tune. The rest of the disc has some straight up jazz scattered throughout, like the pretty Tanner Time, or the 'Fever-esque' Red, but what will really grab the listener's attention... will be the slow jam R&B-ish ballads that pepper the CD... She's right in the pocket and her band supports her well, with punchy arrangements that make these songs work." Paul Abella/Chicago Jazz Magazine (Sept/Oct 2007) TANNER TIME is the follow-up to Ms. Tanner’s most recent release, Those That Lie in Between (Darwin Records, 2005), and was recorded April 28th and 29th, 2007 at Steve Yates Recording in Morton Grove, Illinois. The c.d. was recorded with a “live feel” as the ensemble recorded 15 songs in 14 hours (over a 2-day period). When listening to TANNER TIME, one definitely gets the feeling that you are at one of Ms. Tanner’s shows. “Jeannie's ensemble was able to cut the majority of the compositions on TANNER TIME in one or two takes. This is a testament to the professionalism and musical intuitiveness of Jeannie's working band and to the focused leadership and contagious musicality of Jeannie herself." Neal Alger (Guest Artist on TANNER TIME / Guitarist for Blue Note Recording Artist Patricia Barber) Ms. Tanner is a fabulous live performer and her audiences love the fact that she can "swing it, and she can bring it…" (LA Review) Both as a vocalist and a trumpet player, she entertains her fans with her original music – but she can just as easily channel Miles, Ella or a sizzling version of “At Last,” ala Etta James. She writes both vocal and instrumental songs with a sound that is uniquely her own. "Her music is sexy and well-written; her voice is beautiful and pure; and her trumpet stylings are smooth and melodic. Her star is definitely on the rise." Joseph Campo, Film Director / Reconstellation (L.A.) "The thing I enjoy most about recording with Jeannie is that her music embraces both classic and contemporary feels with equal purity. Her songs feel effortless, and her voice rides on whichever musical wave she chooses. I don't find myself trying to place her in any specific genre, and as a drummer and fellow composer that is quite refreshing. I think Jeannie is one of the most sincere and talented artists to emerge from the Chicago music community." Matt Walker, Drummer/Smashing Pumpkins, Filter & Billy Corgan “Jeannie Tanner is an amazing vocalist, composer and instrumentalist. She is so successful in each category and when you roll all three into one artist, she is an absolute powerhouse. Her original songs are soulful and sultry and her vocal style ranges from airy and light, to searing blues ...from Ella to Etta to Sade to Nora Jones --Jeannie does it all.” Lisa McQueen, Musical Director/Chicago Shakespeare, The Second City,Annoyance Theater, Northlight Theater, Boom Chicago (Amsterdam) & Second City National Touring Company “I love that Jeannie plays trumpet. You don’t see many female horn players and she has such a smooth and melodic feel to her performances. Her voice is rich and strong, yet her dynamic nuances are so warm. Jeannie is such a pleasure to listen to, whether I’m catching her live show or when I’m enjoying her c.d.s.” Elizabeth Geddes The Geddes Talent Agency, Chicago, IL Ms. Tanner performs in the Chicago area at clubs such as the Cubby Bear, Pops for Champagne, Andy's Jazz Club, Pete Miller’s (Evanston, Wheeling & Schaumburg), Lovells of Lake Forest, Stillwater (Downers Grove) and many other fine venues. And, she recently opened for Kurt Elling at the Park West. She has upcoming shows in Dallas, L.A., New York and San Francisco. She is a member of NARAS, ASCAP and is represented by Michael Toorock, Esq. (NYC). She recently composed her first film score for an indie short that has been entered into the Sundance Film Festival. Music from her previous c.d. Out of the Blue has been used for the past three years on the PBS cooking show Culinary Travels with Dave Eckert. She has also performed the National Anthem for the Chicago White Sox, Cubs and Bulls.
