Another classic jazz fusion album from the vibrant Hong Kong music scene of the early 90's. All originals composed by saxophonist / flautist Ric Halstead who was Music Director for the legendary "Jazz Club" at the time which was the vibrant and creative hub of jazz in Hong Kong from 1989 - 1995. The album features guitarist Eugene Pao who has become a household name for jazz in Asia having recorded with Michael Brecker etc and Donald Ashley on drums who is widely recognised as Asia'a leading drummer. Also features UK trumpeter Dick Pearce who was working with the Ronnie Scott band at the time. Amongst the highlight tracks are "Remember" which includes excerpts from news bulletins and interviews about the incident mixed in with the track. Also includes "Sampan Sam" which was used as the theme tune for the film "Dancing Bull". "Chewing Gum" is an affectionate dedication to Miles Davis and "This One's That One" hints at Thelonius Monk and the jazz Avante-Garde. "All in All" is a feature for Ric who plays all the instruments on the track including voice percussion, woodwinds, saxes etc. For those that like there jazz laid back check out "Everything in Time" which features the wonderful bass playing of Paul Candelaria and Dave Packer on keyboards. A colourful album full of surprises!!
