Wetbrain is an upcoming Philadelphia-based band consisting of four members: Matthew del Rio (lead vocalist), Andrew Haff (guitarist), Timothy Wylesol (bass/trumpet), and Alex Muller (drummer/back up vocalist). What initially looked like a rapper with a live band, has progressively developed into something far more expansive, entirely throwing out the meaning of "genre". Wetbrain intertwines hip-hop, blues, funk, alt rock, soul, and metal (with a hint of an edgy pop sound) to craft an out-of-the-box musical experience. Whether it be a mind melting guitar solo by Haff, the booming dexterity of Muller's drums, an acrobatic rap flow (mixed with angry yet bluesy undertones) from Matt, or a ridiculously catchy bass line from Tim, this band continues to sail through unchartered seas as they experiment with multiple genres at once. The band is constantly rehearsing to make sure their live performance exceeds the expectations of even their biggest fans. Thus far, their live shows have been, for lack of a more creative word, incredibly energetic. Although their studio singles have been very well received, their live aura has pulsated through crowds and has drawn just as much warm reception as the singles. Although Wetbrain's music has very diverse sounds throughout their catalog, their is no sense that the band lacks direction. As you listen from track to track, the differing genre influences are present throughout; however, even with this roller coaster ride of sounds, their is still a strong familiarity as a whole (this meaning their identity is ever present in each song, even if each song has it's own unique style). Probably the most appealing aspect of this band is the fact that these genres do not negatively clash with each other. Wetbrain has been able, for example, to mix rap, blues, and alt rock into something that has it's own identity, rather than each genre sloppily stepping on the others' feet.
