简介
Marches’ front man Richard Conti has no shortage of accomplishments. For several years, Conti has been a go to musician for noise, space rock and experimental bands in the Los Angeles area, playing saxophone, piano, bass clarinet, guitar and organ, among other instruments in countless live and studio settings in the city. You can even hear his distinctive sax playing skills on Lupe Fiasco's single "Around My Way (Freedom Ain't Free)". As such an active member of the LA independent music community, it’s no surprise that Conti brings that sense of community to his records. Conti’s latest work as The Marches, I Shall Stand Like David Until Death Makes Me Marble features over two dozen musicians, ranging from Suzette Moriarty (Ray Charles, Herbie Hancock) on French Horn to Luciano Palermo (80's Italian heavy metal band Unreal Terror) on backing vocals. Acting as both lead musician and curator, Conti pulls these disparate artists together to sculpt out a meticulous and inimitable vision that truly coheres. Strings and pianos collide with tape-delay affected saxophones. Homemade choirs are used to create what Andrew Dowdall of The Line of Best Fit describes as "Air style dreamy harmonies.” The end result combines the melodic melancholy of Elliott Smith, the intricate arrangements of Grizzly Bear with the off-kilter experimentation of Oneohtrix Point Never. Evan Sawdey of Pop Matters describes the band as “one of indie-rock's best-kept secrets right now", stating of them that "Every once in a while, there's that one group that is just so profoundly different, new, innovative, and daring that, yes, we want to take a risk on them."
