简介
The Marches’ debut album, 4 a.m. is the new midnight, brought about both critical acclaim and curiosity for the band. Consequently, the group was asked to take part in compilation albums, podcasts, and various projects. This E.P., Director of Photography, is a collection of the best of those efforts and marks an important transition in the band’s development. Gone are any electronic stylings of the previous album. From clarinets in “Big City” to saxophones in “Cold Shoulder” and “Need Me Back (Live)” to clarinets, flutes, and saxophone in “Black Swan (White Swan Version)”, leader and architect Richard Conti has instead decided to arrange every track with woodwinds. And skillfully, even understatedly so. The Marches are a Los Angeles based band that blew up on the blogosphere during 2008 and 2009. The sound on their debut album 4 a.m. is the new midnight, envisioned by the group’s mastermind Richard Conti, combined electro, Motown saxes and classical piano – a sound that landed them international hype, an Australian distribution deal, and even proclaimed “The party album of the year!” by critic Chuck Foster in the December ’09 issue of The Big Takeover magazine. In addition to evolving their music into darker waters for their upcoming E.P., Director of Photography, they are also currently working on a full-length album to be released in early 2012.
